January 2026 SSI Payment Schedule: When Will You Get Your Check?

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are usually sent on the first day of each month. But when that day lands on a weekend or federal holiday, payments are issued earlier to avoid delays.

In January, New Year’s Day (January 1) is a federal holiday.

Because of that, SSI payments are typically sent on the last business day of December, which means many recipients see their January payment just days after Christmas.

What SSI Recipients Should Know

This early payment is not an extra check. It’s simply your January SSI benefit delivered ahead of schedule.

For many recipients, this timing can be especially helpful after holiday spending or end-of-year expenses.

Plan Ahead for the Gap

One important thing to remember: because January’s payment comes early, there may be a longer stretch until the February payment arrives.

Knowing this ahead of time can help SSI recipients budget more smoothly after the holidays.
